To Clip Or Not To Clip?
That is the question burning in every savvy minded window treatment shopper in Canada. Well, to be honest, I’d like to show you the advantages of using a pleated drape, one in particular – the inverted pleat. This simple yet chic and classic style is timeless and when paired with the right fabric can be modern and stylish. For reasons I shall explain “to clip or not to clip?” so you can make the best decisions with your curtains. Although we do sell the clips in packages of 8 for $26.99 CDN, we strongly suggest to all of our clients that going with a simple panel with rings is a big “No-No”. Firstly, these rings were made for a particular style of drapery, one we call Athena (see picture).
Our workroom strongly suggests sewing the rings to the fabric which will effectively create a “skuch” effect between each ring. While our professional installers can quite easily install this style and make it look like your home came right out of a magazine, we don’t recommend you D.I.Y. (do it yourself). The Athena style is great for small windows with stationary panels and with the help of a professional installer you can be sure that the pivots are seamless and symmetrical.
For larger windows (those larger than 4 ft in length) we also advise against using this style. Opening and closing drapery panels on larger windows with rings will eventually become an exhausting task. Attempting to perfect each pleat of fabric could drive any sane person directly off a cliff! Additionally, picking up a beautiful fabric with the intention of using clips to show the fabrics beauty is always a great idea. The only problem is that over time the clips will damage the fabric, particularly if you are opening and closing the panels on a consistent basis. Even slight movements from the wind or light tugs over time will eventually damage the fabric. Although we highly suggest having the rings sewn onto the panel to create a luxurious custom drapery look keep one important thing in mind; If the drapery needs to be washed or dry cleaned in the future you must have the rings removed for washing – Our workroom charges a rate of $5 per ring to have this task done by a professional.
Of course there are always people who would disagree with this opinion, but at the end of the day it all comes down to personal style and preferences. So after reading this article, if you are still not convinced and would like to speak with a professional installer to learn more and obtain a quote, please contact Prestige Decor at 905-566-5063. Keep in mind that when you contact us we will strongly suggest a custom pleated drapery treatment!
